PART 4: FINAL THOUGHTS and stuff
While I was working I got to see a lot of cosplayers. I’ve been going to ACen since 2007, so most of the cosplays didn’t get me too excited. The Gundam cosplayers are always nice to see. Well, even the sexy cosplayers… thats always a given. But what really surprised me was seeing all these toku-related cosplayers. I THOUGHT NONE OF THESE PEOPLE EXISTED IN THE MIDWEST! T_T
There were tons of Eijis, Eijis & Ankhs, people possessed by Imagin, Shotaros, Narumi Sokichis, a Captain Marvelous, and even a Date-Birth! :O
It was none other than the man behind the website Henshin Justice Unlimited (HJU), Keith Heyward! I chatted with him briefly at the booth. I knew he was attending the convention because I listen to HJU Radio and he was surprised that I even listened to that. Managed to snag a picture of him with my phone!
I wanted to attend the Toku and Gundam Panels they were having that day, but I was going to be working till the end of the day, all of the days. Was kinda disappoint :|
I forgot to mention that I entered the Gunpla Builders World Cup competition there. Ended up winning 2nd place, Best 1/100, with my 1/100 NG Over Flag painted in Kamen Rider Accel Trial colors. The Over Flag’s head is so perfect for it.
The end of each day was pretty great. We’d end up getting in line for some free beers and relax at one of the hotels. After that, I’d take some time taking pictures here and there of everyone outside.
The final day consisted of packing up everything and cleaning up. We managed to take 3 trips back and forth across the street with a crapload of boxes on top of a dollie. We relaxed and said our goodbyes and I left for the train station with my bags of loot from the convention.
I had a great experience working with them and got to spend time with a lot of people that enjoy similar things I do. I’ve still been doing some work for them even after the convention and still in contact with them. They’re even helping sponsor a contest I’ve been hosting on a site I help manage :)
I guess it could be considered an internship :P
All in all… IT WAS SUBARASHII!!!!!!
Hope you all enjoyed the photoset-spam ^^;
For the rest of the “first” day it was like this. When ACen officially started, I got to convention center 9AM sharp every morning to clean up and move merchandise around. I’d then get my body ready for the rest of the day as I’d either be on the floor helping others obtain merch that was in the cabinets, watching others vigilantly passing through, and explaining what’s what at the booth. I was an expert at everything Gunpla/Gundam/Super Robot/Rider related. At least I thought so since I was the only one out that could do it XD
(BTW, that big-ass Perfect Grade Strike Freedom… sadly, IT’S COMPLETE SHIT)
I didn’t take ANY pics with my DSLR while I was working, but I did take some good pictures in the mornings. Wish I got video recorded… but I got a buddy to do that for me :P
GUNDAMS & GUNPLA!!! (…and FANG JOKER)
If you don’t know about Bluefin, they basically are the guys bringing over all your favorite Gunpla and Kamen Rider figures over to the USA (sorry Canada & Mexico). So I guess I was technically working for Bandai in a sense, though no Bandai reps were with them at ACen as opposed to Anime Expo and Fanime. I think it was because it was their first time at ACen, though not the first time Bluefin was in Chicago.
I was working as a “grunt”. Our job was simple enough:
It’s a good thing that no Bandai reps were at ACen. If they were, we would of had specific poses for everything. We decided to have a little fun with some of the displays… specifically the Kamen Riders found in S.H. Figuarts form…
So earlier this summer (late-May), I got a chance to work with Bluefin Distribution when they came to Chicago
for the first time for Anime Central. I have a friend that worked for them and he had me come in a day before the con opened up to the public to open boxes with tupperware FILLED with Gunpla and various Tamashii Nations figures.
(I GOT TO OPEN THAT BRAND NEW SHF FAIZ BLASTER BOX)
